2014 BMW X5 Review: Minor Touch-Ups To An Already Perfect SUV

For two generations now, the BMW X5 has impressed the world with its beauty and power. Earlier this year, BMW launched the third-gen X5 and as expected, it is just some improvements to the existing features on its predecessor.

While the X5 might be classified under SUV, BMW see it as something new and called it a Sports Activity Vehicle. Also, the new X5 has some touch ups to its design. Now, the vehicle looks more American than ever.

The headlights are now fused with the front-grille and there are Air Curtains at the sides of the front portion to reduce wind drag.

The X5 is also equipped with some new technologies. Consumers can choose from the Driving Assistant to the Driving Assistant Plus. The former basically offers lane departure warning that will auto-brake the vehicle whenever the X5 gets too close to its surrounding. As for the second package, it offers Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go. Heck, there is even a Traffic Jam Assistant package which autopilots the car when in harsh traffic congestion.

Under the hood, the X5 runs on the tri-turbo M57S engine that offers 740Nm torque at 2000rpm. It also produces 381hp at 4000rpm. Acceleration from knots to 100km/h stands at 5.3 seconds. However, efficiency suffers as the X5 achieved 14L/100km.

All in all, there is nothing much to say about the X5 except that it is much better than its predecessor. While it may not have a lot of new tech, the third-gen X5 is like a polished gem in its line-up.
