Samsung Galaxy Round vs Note 3 & S4: Evolution Or Novelty?

So the new Samsung Galaxy Round is the world’s first smartphone with a real curved display. But is it any match for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy S4?

The Galaxy Round is somehow a customized version of the Note 3. The Note 3 has a flat 5.7 inches display and the Galaxy Round has a curved 5.7 inches display. The Samsung Galaxy Round has almost the same dimension as the Galaxy Note 3 and only a few grams lighter than the Note 3 but the smallest and lightest is the Samsung Galaxy S4. The rear of the Galaxy Round is curved too and this allows for some tilt activation functions when the Galaxy Round is placed on the table.

Both the Samsung Galaxy Round and Note 2 have the same display specs, a 5.7 inches Super AMOLED display with 1920 x 1080p resolution. Just like the Note 3, the Galaxy Round also has an S Pen. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has a smaller screen which is a 5 inches Super AMOLED display with 440ppi pixel density and 1080 x 1920p resolution.

All three smartphones have 2MP front facing cameras and 13MP rear cameras with LED flash, face and smile detection, autofocus, HDR, image stabilisation, 1080p video, panorama mode and Dual Shot.

The Samsung Galaxy Round has LTE Advance connectivity while the Note 3 and Galaxy S4 have LTE but all of the three devices have 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC features. The processor on the Galaxy Round is a 3GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 processor along with the Adreno 330 co-processor and 3MB of RAM. The Note 3 has an Exynos 5 Octacore 5410 silicon processor.

The internal storage options in Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 are 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, while the Samsung Galaxy Round is only available in 32GB. However, all three devices supports SD card storage expansion up to 64GB.

Despite having the similar display (apart from the curved and flat nature), the Note 3 display is powered by a 3200mAh battery pack while the Galaxy Round has a 2800mAh battery. The Galaxy S4 has a 2600mAh battery pack.

We think that if the Samsung Galaxy Round has a truly flexible display, it might be a threat to the Note 3 and the Galaxy S4, but since it is not, the Samsung Galaxy Round is pretty much just another smartphone by Samsung with a small novelty.
