Those who own the Samsung Galaxy S4 or the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will be pleased to hear about a code that has leaked, which will allow them to unlock their locked handset. The device can then take a SIM card from any carrier and the handset can be used anywhere around the world.
For example you could have bought a locked version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 if you bought the device on contract. In this case you will only be able to use it with the carrier you bought the device with, unless you unlock it. So if you contract has now expired and you want to move to a different carrier you can follow the steps below to unlock the device.
Take out your SIM card and put one in that belongs to another carrier. You can then switch your handset off and then turn it back on again.
You then have to go to your dial pad and you should enter *#197328640#. Go to your main menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3] Perso SHA256 OFF. Wait for 30 seconds or a minute before going back to your main menu and choosing “back”. You will now see a “Network Lock” message. Choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ.
If you typed in the sequence right, it should read: “Asterisk Pound One Nine Seven Three Two Eight Six Four Zero Pound”. Remember that some people call the asterisk “star”, and the pound button “hash”.
By now the device will be unlocked and you can take it to whichever carrier you want. You can even use the device anywhere in the world with any local SIM card. As engineers have used the coding for some time you may be able to use it with any of the Samsung handsets.
