Samsung Galaxy S2: How To Update To Android Jelly Bean Now

The Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1.2 ZSLSE Jelly Bean update has already hit Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. This firmware does not have any branding and comes in with the Chinese language packs. This update is now readily available for you to download and install yourself manually should you not get the notification.

The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update brings Project Butter to the Samsung Galaxy S2 as well as a better TouchWiz UI, S Cloud, a new customisable lock screen, Direct Call, Smart Stay and Pop up Play. The Android 4.1.2 ZSLSE ROM also comes along with 50GB of Dropbox storage, enhanced Google Now, two home screen choices and a new notification bar.

Before you perform the update, make sure your Samsung Galaxy S2 model number is I9100 and you have unlocked your smartphone. You also need to back up all your data and install the USB drivers on your computer. Enable USB debugging on your Samsung Galaxy S2 and make sure you have at least 80% battery left.

Updating will cause you to lose root; if you want your Samsung Galaxy S2 rooted, you need to re-root the device after making the update. Following are the steps:

1. Download Android 4.1.2 ZSLSE official firmware on your computer and extract the zip file.

2. Download ODIN v1.85.

3. Switch off your Galaxy S2 and boot it into Download Mode (press and hold Volume Down and Home buttons together, and then tap the Power button until the construction Android robot icon with a triangle appears on screen. Hit the Power button again to progress into Download Mode)

4. Launch ODIN on computer and connect the Samsung Galaxy S2 while it is still in Download Mode.

5. When the Samsung Galaxy S2 connects successfully, one of the ID: COM boxes indicates yellow with the corresponding COM port number. This step may be time-consuming.

6. Choose the Android 4.1.2 ZSLSE file downloaded and extracted earlier.

7. Click the ‘PDA’ checkbox and choose the file named ‘.tar or ‘.md5′.

8. Hit the ‘Phone’ checkbox and select the file named ‘MODEM’. Ignore this step if you can’t find the file.

9. Tap the ‘CSC’ checkbox and select the file named ‘CSC.’ Ignore this step if you can’t find the file.

10. Click the ‘PIT’ checkbox and select the .pit file. Ignore this step if you can’t find the file.

11. In ODIN, enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options. In case of Re-Partition option, check it ONLY if a .pit file was chosen in the previous step.

12. Hit Start button in ODIN and the firmware installation process will begin. This might take a few minutes.

Once the installation is completed, the Samsung Galaxy S2 will reboot. The first reboot will take longer than usual, this is normal so you don’t have to worry. As soon as the home screen appears, detach the Samsung Galaxy S2 from your computer. You should have the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update running on your Samsung Galaxy S2.
