Subaru BRZ Fate Left Hanging After Toyota Bails On The Project!

An argument between Toyota and Subaru has occurred and it is about the BRZ sports car. The latter was released last year and is at risk of being discontinued after Toyota and Subaru got caught in a disagreement with each other.

Unless you’ve heard, the BRZ is a product from Subaru and Toyota. The former might be the badge for the vehicle but it was the latter which provided the resources and blueprints for the sports car. After all, the BRZ is built to be the replacement of the old Toyota 86.

Another thing to note is that Subaru is owned by Fuji Heavy Industries, which is partly owned by Toyota. The fallout happened when Subaru refused to create a follow up for the BRZ. This is something Toyota wanted as it wishes for the old 86 to grow inside another vehicle from a different make.

With Subaru holding firm with their decision, Toyota might just hit the kill switch for the BRZ and leave Subaru behind. This is something the latter should avoid happening as Subaru lacks the resources which Toyota has.

Even Toyota was unmoved by Subaru’s decision as they claim that the 86 can be revived through other ventures like BMW. Obviously, this is the better deal as BMW is of a higher standard than Subaru.

Toyota Chief Engineer, Tetsuya Tada, revealed that the 86 will come with a turbocharged engine and will benefit from the technological advancement from BMW. Furthermore, the program can also assist in developing the next FR-S.

It is all pain and gain for Toyota while Subaru gets left behind in the shadows. Will the latter be able to stand on its own two feet?
