It was reported on cliqist.com that Shenmue 3 has now finished its month of funding on Kickstarter and earned a huge $6,333,295 in funds. This is a huge amount considering the fact that they had wanted to make $2,000,000. It has now gone and taken the title of the most funded video game and taken over from the game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Shenmue 3 beat it as the previous holder managed to acquire $5,545,991. This goes to show that gamers do actually still like the games from the past and they are willing to hand over huge amounts of cash to get their hands on another title in the games series.
So it is looking as though Shenmue 3 deserves a huge pat on the back for managing to raise as much money as they did.
What is interesting is the fact that Shenmue 3 didn’t get up a secondary funding campaign. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night went on to raise $213k through PayPal/Stripe when Kickstarter funding ended. However it was pointed out by Cliqist that there is no way of finding out how much was raised.
Perhaps if Shenmue 3 had gone ahead and opened external funding it would have been in a much higher position right now.
