It is no secret that Commander Shepard and everything else that relates to him, or the first Mass Effect trilogy, won’t be featuring in the future sequels. Bioware already revealed that the protagonist we all have played and loved has retired from the franchise.
If so, then Mass Effect 4 will start on a brand new adventure with a new protagonist to play with. The fact that Bioware is starting things fresh worries the fans as the latter fears that the gameplay will change.
The game developers immediately address these worries by assuring the fans that they will look to preserve that traditional Mass Effect gameplay. As a matter of fact, Mass Effect 4 will take place in the same universe.

Fans have been busy discussing on the plot of the game with the question in mind. One Mass Effect enthusiast is certainly hoping that it won’t be set at an earlier time to Shepard. Having it to be a prequel will only spoil the surprise factor as players are aware of the outcome.
The best idea came from Redditor Flan_B who wants the protagonist in Mass Effect 4 to be a rogue character. He will have that self-centred attitude and will only have money in his mind. In laments term, this new protagonist will be the Han Solo in Mass Effect. Many fans loved his idea and gifted it with an upvote.
Aside from all that, the fans came to an agreement that Mass Effect 4 should have a darker storyline. This should feed the thrill hungry players. At the pace Mass Effect 4’s development is going, there is a chance for it to get released this year.
