Kingdom Hearts III: 2017 Not Looking Too Good

Fans of the Kingdom Hearts franchise have been waiting for the third installment for more than 10 years now. It was initially reported that the new installment will arrive in 2016 but Square Enix later announced that they needed more time with it.

While Square Enix did not announce a new release window or release date, the fans assumed that we will be seeing it this year but based on what Tetsuya Nomura is saying now, 2017 is looking more and more unlikely.

When talking to Famitsu, Nomura, who is now in charge of both the Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy VII Remake listed out some of the plans they have for this year and it was clear that Kingdom Hearts 3 was not part of it.

He mentioned that they will be releasing the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix early this year but mention nothing about a Kingdom Heart 3 arrival. When asked about the development of the new installment, he said that there are will worlds that they have not even touched yet and that “there’s still a ways to go” when it comes to development.

He also added that they will be asking the fans to wait a little longer for both the Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy V11 Remake.
