Mazda definitely woke us up from our dream with their latest announcement. When Mazda reveal that they have a team of engineers working on the rotary engine right now, we all thought that that is the hint that the Mazda RX-9 is going to happen eventually but it looks like we got it all wrong.
According to Mazda’s CEO, Masamichi Kogai, Mazda currently has no plans to offer the market any new sports car that is larger than the Mazda MX-5 Miata right now. Since the RX-9 is a sports car that is larger than the MX-5, that means it is out of the picture.
If Mazda were to give the Mazda RX-9 the green light, it would have been the one to give the Toyota Supra a run for its money but sadly, that will not be happening in the near future so we will have to stop dreaming about it.
