A new Mazda RX-9 would make the perfect rival for the Toyota Supra but that is only if Mazda wants to build one. Based on what Mazda is saying right now, it looks like they are not interested in making one in the near future.
Fans got their hopes up last year when Mazda announce that they already have a team that is working on a rotary engine. Most people assume that we will be seeing the Mazda RX-9 when the engine is ready but according to Mazda, they currently have no plans to release a new sports car that is larger than the Mazda MX-5.
Since the RX-9 is larger, that means we might not be seeing a new RX-9. It looks like Toyota will be enjoying all the attention when it finally arrives. Toyota will be working with BMW to come out with the new Toyota Supra. It will be interesting to see they will be offering at the end of the day.
