John Hennessey decided to put both the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the Dodge ChaCharger Hellcat on the track to see which of these model is the better drag queen and while the Charger did end up being the winner, it definitely wasn’t because the Chevrolet Camaro was not good enough.
On paper, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 can only deliver about 650hp while the Dodge Charger with its Hellcat engine will be able to deliver about 707hp. However, that wasn’t the reason why the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was trailing.
Unlike the Dodge Charger Hellcat, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was fitted with a six-speed manual transmission. Things would have definitely been a lot closer if the Camaro was fitted with the 10-speed auto transmission that GM has right now as it was clear that the Camaro only started losing out when the driver changed gear.
Do you think that the Camaro could have been the winner of not for the manual transmission?
