2015 Honda Civic Type R: What’s New?

Come next year, Honda will be unleashing the next-gen Civic Type-R. Today, we have got more details on what the Sports Hatch has got to offer.

Price-wise, the Civic Type-R is expected to be priced around the £30,000 bracket that is slightly more expensive than the VW Golf GTi but cheaper than the 4×4 Golf R. The Type-R will also be powered by a 290hp, turbocharged 2L i-VTEC engine.

Readers shouldn’t be fooled by the figures on the Civic Type-R. After all, the hatchback had just been crowned as the fastest FWD vehicle to ever race on the Nurbergring in Germany. This is amazing as the Civic Type-R is already breaking records even when it is not released yet.

The engine is mated to a traditional 6-speed manual gearbox that will not only enhance the thrill when driving the vehicle, but also ensure more ponies can be channelled to the front wheel at a given time.

Honda also promised that the Civic Type-R will be more powerful than the NSX Type-R supercar. If this is to happen, then the hatchback will surely be able to sprint from 0-60mph in about 6-seconds. Furthermore, the Type-R will get the +R driving mode. When activated, the engine will become more responsive and the steering will have more weight.

As for the car’s release date, Honda has yet to announce anything specific but we can expect the Civic Type-R to arrive in Q1 2015. The Japanese carmaker also took the opportunity to tease that they can make the Type-R more hardcore if there is any demand for it.
