2014 Porsche Macan Review: A Combination Of The 911, Spyder & Cayenne

The latest Macan has broken all records to be the fastest selling Porsche vehicle in history. Purchasing the car today can put you on a 6-months waiting list. Let’s see why the Macan is so popular.

In terms of looks, the Macan S looks so much like the Macan Turbo. In fact, there is no way to tell each other apart. Then again, the former is slightly taller than the latter. The taillights look a lot like those on the Spyder 918 and it features longitudinal trim elements. In short, the Macan looks like an oversized 911 but with some minor changes here and there.

Inside the cabin, the Macan has got a lot of recycled features from the 911 and the Cayenne. There is the three-dial layout, the 918 Spyder steering, and a neat and luxurious design. The inside is slightly smaller than the Audi Q5 as it is measured at 500litres of space.

The Macan runs on the 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox which offers exceptional handling. Porsche specifically promised that the Macan will be an SUV that performs like a sports car. Well, the German carmaker certainly lived up to its words as the Macan is able to swerve around sharp bends with ease.

Of course, the major flaw with the Macan is with its efficiency. The SUV is a fuel drainer as it recorded only 14.7mpg in city driving. Out on the highway, the Macan can achieve up to 23.5mpg. Still, this is below the average standards of today’s vehicles.

The Macan runs on the twin-turbo V6 motor that offers 340hp and 460Nm.When the turbo is triggered at 6000rpm, the Macan get boosted by another 400hp. This is truly amazing but not surprising as the Macan comes from Porsche.

All in all, the Macan is truly a great SUV to own. However, we feel like it is more of a rich man’s toy than a car that everyone has to pursue.
