2014 Nissan Frontier/Navara: The Good & The Bad

The silence within the pickup truck segment has finally been broken. Nissan has just launched the all new Frontier (Navara) and it is truly something else.

Unlike the previous Frontier, this new model is slightly smaller and more compact. However, it is a sweet ride as it does away with the typical diesel turbocharged engine and offers a softer and smoother one for the gentle city roads.

Also, the Frontier is able to offer a comfort that is rarely found in the world of pickups. It features 8-way power drive seats, heated front seats, a 5.8” navigation system and a 59.5” Pickup box with 4-bed hooks.

Even without the turbocharged diesel motor, the Frontier remains a strong competitor. It runs on a 4L V6 engine that produces 261hp and 281lb-ft of torque. It is so strong that it can tow away vehicles up to 6,100lbs. The engine is also an oil drainer as it recorded 14L/100km on the highways and 9.4L/100km on the city roads.

When going off-road, the Frontier continues to impress as the Nissan 4WD drive assist system ensures that the drive remains smoother than ever.

Of course, all of these perks will not come for a cheap. The Nissan Frontier Crew Cab PRO-4X 4×4 retails at $34,948. With the Nissan Frontier already out, let’s see how its bitter rival, the Toyota Tocoma responds to this.
