2014 Honda Accord Review: Well Engineered But Boring Transmission

The Honda Accord has long served the world as the most reliable mid-size executive sedan around. Earlier this year, Honda updated the Accord through launching a new model and it has been an instant global hit.

The entry-level of the 2014 Accord retails at only $31,490. Despite, the small price tag, the Accord has got so much to offer that it simply embarrasses its more expansive rivals. Among the great things that the Accord has are the ‘NU’ direct-injection 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, satellite navigation and many more.

Under the hood, the sedan is powered by 2.4-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The Accord is never short of power as it comes with 129kW at 6200rpm and 225Nm at 4000rpm. This might be weaker than its predecessors but it is meant to get the best efficiency for the vehicle.

Inside the cabin, things are not that different from the predecessor. There is the central console system that simply tells the driver everything that he wants to know. With it, the driver can check out the trip-meter, odometer, trip meter, fuel consumption and many more.

On the exterior, designs were kept at its minimal. In fact, the Accord has lost its flair ever since the 2011 variant got released. Year in, year out, more and more details and styling got eliminated from the Accord’s design.

Nevertheless, the Accord has proved yet again why it is the most reliable and dependable mid-size sedan around. Of course, it could have been better if Honda gave it better transmission. The 5-speed automatic is simply staggering.
