The iPad 3 is set for a March 7 launch and retailers such as Best Buy have already dropped the price of the iPad 2 by $50. Now there is good chance that we could see the iPad 2 go for as low as $399 once the iPad 3 is officially available in stores however that will still be a far cry from one of the fastest selling Android tablets on the market – the Amazon Kindle Fire.
8GB iPad 2 may launch alongside iPad 3 next week (DigiTimes)
Now DigiTimes reports, citing sources in the company’s upstream supply chain, that Apple plans on announcing an 8GB iPad 2 alongside the iPad 3 next week.
With the iPad 3 rumored to boast a Retina Display and more powerful processor, it will no doubt stick with the $499 starting price tag we’ve seen for iPads to date. However with an 8GB iPad 2 model, Apple may be able to drop the price of the tablet to as low as $299. This will allow for a cheaper entry price for tablet buyers interested in an iOS tablet.
We will be at the Apple event in SF on March 7 so stay tuned for more updates!
