With the imminent release of the iPad 3 and the latest Android tablet to be unveiled being the somewhat disappointing Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, tablet buyers looking to make a purchase this year may still have some strong options.
ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity to take on iPad 3
Alongside the ASUS PadFone and Transformer Pad 300, ASUS also revealed the Transformer Pad Infinity 700 Series Android tablets at MWC 2012. Basically a heavily upgraded Transformer Prime that was released only a couple months ago.
The ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity will come in two variants, a WiFi only and LTE/3G/WiFi model. The WiFi-only model boasts a Nvidia Tegra 3 T33 quad-core 1.6GHz processor, while the LTE variant sits on a Qualcomm MSM 8960 Snapdragon S4 Krait dual-core 1.5Ghz processor. Both Android tablets get a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 Full HD Super IPS+ display with 600 nits of brightness to rival the rumored Retina Display on the iPad 3. The screen is enforced with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and the tablets also pack 1GB RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera (F2.2 aperture, 5-element lens, LED flash), 2 megapixel front-facing camera, 16/32/64GB storage options, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
On the exterior we find a slim 8.5-mm body and metallic spun concentric circle finish. No word yet on when it will hit the market but given that ASUS is known to roll out their devices promptly, we wouldn’t be surprised if it hits the market around the same time as the iPad 3.
