2017 Nissan Maxima: Exaggerating The V-Shaped Grille

Nissan made a strong announcement on the Nissan Maxima yesterday when it claims that the future of the sports sedan will be incorporating a modified V-shaped grille. This particular feature has saved Nissan from being bashed for making cars look awkward and it is about to get its design updated.

Unfortunately, the direction Nissan is hoping for is seen as a major step backwards. The Japanese carmaker unveiled the Sway Concept as an example and there, the V-Shaped bars are much bigger and more lowered than before.

On its own, the idea looks good but when paired to a bloated curvy body, it makes the Sway Concept looks sad and bad. There are two ways two go about this. Either Nissan rework their design or don’t disturb the peace within the V-shaped grille.

In my case, I like Nissan’s vision but the implementation is full of mistakes. Placing the V near the lower bumpers does carry an influence from Maserati and nobody dislikes that.

On the upside of things, the grille is still in its early stages and there are bound to be further adjustments in the near future. Let’s hope it is for the better. What do you think?
