The Golf R from Volkswagen is confirmed to be getting a refresh with a facelift model in 2016. Earlier today, VW went out to share that the upcoming hatchback is going to be based on the concept model that was unveiled at the last Beijing Motor Show.
With that being said, the VW Golf R Facelift is confirmed to drive on the Haldex 5 AWD system that is powered by a 2.2L turbocharged engine, paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission. This generates about 292hp and it can offer acceleration from 0-100km/h in about 3.9 seconds.
Of course, being a Facelift model, there are bound to be some changes to the Golf R design. When asked about this, VW responded by teasing that they will be taking inspirations from the 1989 Rally Golf where the exterior is in yellow and the interior is themed in silver.
