The Honda Accord is recognized as a highly reliable mid-size sedan that has never failed to impress the automotive industry. On the other hand, the latest Mazda 6 was built to rival the long-serving Honda Accord. Is the Mazda 6 better?
In terms of design, the Honda Accord has a more minimalistic look. It has some sporty edges but overall, the car feels more of an executive ride. While the Accord might look great, it is the Mazda 6 that has the appealing factor due to its sportier design.
Under the hood, the Honda Accord runs on the 185hp 2.4L 4-Cylinder engine that is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Mazda 6 is powered by a 184hp 2.5L 4-Cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
While the Mazda 6 might have a bigger engine capacity, it is more fuel efficient than the Accord. The Mazda 6 recorded 26mpg on city roads and 38mpg on highways. This is about 8.7% more efficient than the Accord. The latter can only achieve 24mpg on city roads and 34mpg on highways.
It is also more spacious and comfortable with the Mazda 6. The mid-sized sedan is able to offer more head-room, leg room and hip room for its passengers. However, it is the Accord that has the bigger boot space.
Obviously, the winner of this contest is the Mazda 6. The car simply has more to offer than the Honda Accord. Mazda has certainly picked up their game in the last couple of years and it is perhaps time for Honda to do the same.
