What is there not to like about Jeep’s latest compact crossover, the Renegade? The 4×4 is stylish and also powerful. Yesterday, we managed to get behind the wheels of the Renegade to see how the car performs when not on papers.
Before we get to that, there is something about the Renegade’s interior which we dislike. The seat cushions are found to be very hard and it does ache us if travel on long distances. Also, the Renegade comes with stiff suspensions so it actually doesn’t help ease the discomfort caused by the seats.
However, we have to acknowledge the fact that the 2L 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine that powers the Renegade actually performed really well when cruising. For a diesel engine, the Renegade is not loud and can be considered to be smooth. Then again, the car also lacks that extra power that is required to overtake at high speeds.
Moving on, we took the Renegade to a short off-road trail. After all, the car is built by Jeep and it comes with all the trademark off-road features which the manufacturer is famous for. There, everything about the Renegade is flawless. The high ground clearance certainly helps in tackling the rough obstacles and also cross a shallow stream.
Despite that fact, it is worrying to learn that not every consumer is off-road fans. Majority of them are keen for something reliable and economical. This is something the Renegade is missing out on. Otherwise, there is no doubt that the Renegade will be regarded as the best compact SUV yet.
