Fallout 4 might not be announced yet but there is no doubt that the game will be the first in the series to debut on both the PS4 and the Xbox One. However, it does not mean that fans should have high expectations for Fallout 4 as there is a chance for the game to be technically impaired.
Gaming consoles aside, Fallout 3 actually tells a lot on how Bethesda develops the series. Back then, the game developer utilized Elder Scrolls Oblivion’s game engine for Fallout 3. Of course, Bethesda tweaked it to offer better graphics and rendering.
If the trend is to follow with Fallout 4, then there is the possibility for the game to run on Elder Scrolls Skyrim’s game engine. Again, Bethesda will surely tweak it to enhance the offering but it won’t be enough to perform flawlessly on the Xbox One and PS4.
For Bethesda, it is considered as more good news since they can launch Fallout 4 to the older Xbox 360 and PS3, thus, enabling them to reach out to more gamers and bag more profits.
Some might argue that Bethesda is actually developing a brand new game engine for Fallout 4 but that seems unlikely due to the time frame constraints. Creating a new game engine requires years to develop and it will only delay Fallout 4’s release further.
With that being said, it is better to not hope for the best as it could only lead to disappointment. More importantly, fans should think about Fallout 4’s release date instead of its graphic capabilities.
