Resident Evil fans were infuriated by the lack of terror in Resident Evil 6 –they’ve been waiting for a scare since RE 4! They’ve demanded that CapCom brings back the fear – in Resident Evil 7.
Most of the game’s players have been there since the start and have come to rely on the horror aspect of the game, which can be just as scary as Silent Hill.
Resident Evil 4, however, saw a move away from horror into straightforward action of the Call of Duty variety. Not good.
If things don’t get horrific again, the fans might defect to another source of sinister, like The Evil Within, from Japan’s TangoGameWorks.
The Evil Within is a brilliant combo of puzzle-solving, mystery and terror, and if CapCom doesn’t try to keep up, it’ll get left behind.
Resident Evil needs to become scary once more or it’ll simply go under and be replaced by The Evil Within.
