PS4 vs Xbox One: Clockspeed Battle Says PS4 Likely Ahead

The Playstation 4 is already released on the North American market and many are revealing the console to run on an AMD Jaguar CPU, clocked at 1.8GHz. Before the machine’s release, it was thought that the PS4 will run on a 1.6GHz CPU only. On top of that, it is the AMD Jaguar so we can see the PS4 capable of going to 2GHz since the CPU is built for that speed.

While the PS4 continues to amaze everyone, Microsoft upcoming Xbox One is rumoured to clock at 1.75GHz. This means that the PS4 has a much more powerful CPU compared to the Xbox One. Do keep in mind that a lower clock frequency isn’t necessarily bad. It will require less power and produce less heat. In terms of performance, the PS4 is equipped with the best there is. Heck the PS4 can get an overclocked without any worries on overheating since the device has a large APU.

If you recall, Microsoft has already spoke about the Xbox One clock speeds. The company actually achieved a far greater performance just increasing the clock speed of the Xbox One from 1.65GHz to 1.75GHz. The PS4 on the other hand is known to shift the processing onto the GPU.

When taken a closer look, two disabled compute units are present inside the PS4’s GPU which acts as an emergency, just in case the other fails. The compute unites cannot be enabled.

If these speculations are much more concrete, then the PS4 is likely the winner in terms of clock speed. However, these are still rumours so take it with a pinch of salt.
