The biggest rival for the Honda CR-V right now is probably the Toyota RAV4. Honda has managed to close the gap between the CR-V and the RAV4 but they are still far from overtaking the RAV4 in terms of sales.
While some people think that it is because the Honda buyers are waiting for Honda to release the new model, other seems to think that the missing hybrid option is to blame here. It is obvious that offering the hybrid option had helped the Toyota RAV4. It was reported that the RAV4 sales went up by 10% after the release of the hybrid option.
At this point, it does not look like Honda has any plans to release a hybrid version for the 2017 model but there is speculation that Honda might offer a hybrid option when the 2018 model arrives. It is also said that the 2018 model will be coming in with a new design that is based on the new Honda Civic.
