2016 Nissan Maxima: A Serious Step Down From Its Concept

Admit it, we have all got out breathe taken away upon viewing Nissan’s latest Sports Sedan Concept. Furthermore, things got extra exciting when the Japanese carmaker revealed that the SSC will be the base model for the upcoming Nissan Maxima.

Today, the world can already catch a glimpse on the latter after spy shots of it running some test went public on the internet. Even with the thick camouflage, we can still spot the V-shaped grille with smaller inlets on each side and jagged headlights. Also, there is that floating roofline taken from the GT-R.

On the downside of things, we failed to see a car that is shaped anything like the SSC. The production model is not as sharp or coupe enough like its concept. Then again, we are not surprised as the final product from a great concept is often toned down for reasons unknown.

Under the hood, we can expect the Maxima to draw its power from a 3.5L V6 motor. Such an engine can offer 300hp that is pushed to the front wheels via the CVT transmission. On the other hand, some are predicting it to be a 2.5L supercharged 4-cylinder that is paired to an electric motor, like those on the Nissan Pathfinder.

Of course, all of this will be clarified once the Maxima is ready to step out of hiding, possibly late next year.
