2016 Chevrolet Camaro: First Photos

The next car from Chevrolet that will take on the Ford Mustang has been pictured while under testing with current GM products close by for scale.

Chevrolet needs to have the Camaro in tip-top shape as there is a new Mustang on its way. The move to the scalable Alpha platform is going to fix the many ills that have plagued the Camaro. At the moment the car rides on the cut down version of the Zeta architecture which underpins some of the bigger sedans and the fleet duty Caprice.

The Camaro test mule has a wheelbase of 109.32 inches and this is around the same as the ATS sedan and coupe and three inches shorter than the wheelbase seen on the Camaro that is out at the moment.

The cover up on the Camaro makes it impossible to get an idea of the width and length of the car as most of the car is misrepresented. However we did get a hint about a faster roofline and it does look as though the front and back ends taper more than the camo out of the market today. The quad exhaust give us an indication that it could be the V8 powered SS model, while the ZL1 style split spoke wheels could be an indication that it could be a higher performance model.

A turbocharged four cylinder could be coming to join the other options but potential buyers could have the option of a manual shift through 6 gears, with the automatic being the 8 speed.

The Camaro is going to come out in 2015 and will be on sale later in 2016. It is though that a convertible will follow on. The price tag should be in the region of the base price of today’s model, $24, 550.
