Samsung Galaxy S4 owners will be delighted to find out that they can free up their handset without paying a penny.
If you’re on a contract with Verizon, for example, you’re tied into that network, so if you want to move to another network, you’ll have to unlock the handset. Once unlocked, the phone can travel anywhere in the world and use any carrier you fancy. If this sounds useful to you, then read on and do it.
You first need to remove your SIM and replace it with one that isn’t from Verizon, before turning the device off and on again.
Then go to the dialpad and enter *#197328640#. Go to main menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > wait for a minute or so before heading to menus and choosing back. You’ll see ‘Network Lock’ and then you select [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ.
The right sequence should read: Asterisk Pound One Nine Seven Three Two Eight Six Four Zero Pound. Remember that some people call the asterisk the ‘star’, and some call the pound ‘hash’.
You should now have an unlocked Galaxy S4 that is free to travel anywhere in the world with you. This code has been knocking around for a while so it may well work with other Samsung devices.
