HTC One users who have been waiting for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update are in for some great news. This KitKat OS, together with the cloud printing and security enhancements, looks all set for a release.
HTC One and HTC One mini users in Canada will get the update from the nation’s major telco such as Telus, Bell, Virgin, Wind, Sasktel and Rogers. The carriers are currently tweaking the KitKat and will roll them out when ready.
It is a similar case in the US where major telcos such as AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile will release the firmware OTA once everything is in place.
Amidst the KitKat update for both HTC One and One Mini, the HTC One X is also queued for its final update. A HTC representative from the US revealed that the One X from AT&T will be getting the Jellybean 4.2.2 update.
Of course, the HTC features like Sense 5.5, cloud printing, security beefing, new Bluetooth profiles, flash support removal, UI changes and BlinkFeed updates will all be intact in the update. As for other features, it will depend on the telco.
Despite all that, HTC users are worried that the issue with the camera having purple tints when taking low-light pictures will still be present with the updates. This issue has been around for some time now. It was thought to be fixed when Android 4.3 got released. However, a test screenshot of a low light image with the Android 4.2.2 showed no signs of this purple tint.
Word has it that the issue isn’t with the Android OS. The problem lies with the camera hardware itself and users who encountered them can refer to their nearest HTC centre to get it replaced for free. On the other hand, playing with the saturation and contract settings can assist in reducing the tint.
