Sony Xperia Phones Could Receive Exclusive Android KitKat Features

Owners of the Xperia are in for a treat if the recent hints dropped out by Sony are anything to go by. Sony had been talking about the release of KitKat 4.4 and 4.4.2 for the Xperia devices and SP, T, TX and the V. Some of the features heading to the device will be like those of the Xperia Sirius along with the Z1. These features are thought to include battery managers, new camera modes and two user interfaces.

The user interface for the Sony Sirius was leaked and it came in two types. There was the Simple home screen and an Xperia one. In this leak we also saw that the icons had changed, owners can look forward to new status bar icons along with a new battery icon.

Jelly Bean 4.3 has Smart Social apps along with a brand new UI and camera modes. It is though that the Sony Xperia Z1, Ultra X and devices belonging to the Z series may have some of the camera features from the Sirius. So owners may be able to enjoy TimeShift video and Background Defocus.

Smart app has a new look and Recent Apps has a Close All button and Smart Backlight. The latter is said to be along the same lines as the Smart Stay which is on the Samsung handsets. With KitKat 4.2.2 comes white balance support, smart call handling and double tap to wake.

The Xperia Sirius has been treated to new sound options; these include audio accessory support along with high resolution audio with USB. Sirius should get S Force audio, Clear Audio and the xLoud engine.

Owners will be able to enjoy customisation for the status bar and notifications along with My Xperia themes. Jelly Bean 4.3 doesn’t allow for customisation of the My Xperia themes.

It has been said that KitKat will bring with it new stamina mode, power management, low battery indications and Wi-Fi based on location. Owners can queue the background data and this should save battery life.

The Sony Xperia Z should be updated to KitKat this year, while the Xperia SP, T, TX and V may have to wait until they see Android 4.3.
