Android 6.0 Marshmallow is already here, and Samsung Galaxy S3 users are hoping for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update on their smartphones, which is very unlikely to happen. But, don’t be sad since you can still get your S3 updated with Android 5.0 Lollipop instead.
Follow the instructions below to install the Android 5.0 Lollipop on your Samsung Galaxy S3:
1. Download the arter97 kernel file and arter97’s Android 5.0 Lollipop update firmware.
2. Extract the Lollipop ROM zip file and place the ROM back-up in this location: /sdcard/clockwordmod/backup on your Samsung Galaxy S3. Then, transfer the kernel ZIP file to your SD card.
3. Switch to recovery mode on and clean the system, cache, dalvik cache, and data.
4. Next, restore the back-up. Since the 5.0 firmware is stored in the backup folder, it will install the Android Lollipop ROM.
5. Install the arter97 kernel. Do not restart the device as the ROM cannot boot without the kernel. Stay in recovery mode to finish the installation.
6. Choose the kernel ZIP file that was transferred to the SD card in recovery and flash it.
7. Finally, reboot the phone to finish the ROM installation.
This installation also works for other Samsung Galaxy S3 variants that support the arter97 kernel, such as the Galaxy S3 SK-3G (SHW-M440S), SK-LTE (SHV-E210S), KT-LTE (SHV-E210K), and the LG-LTE (SHV-E210L)
