Verizon HTC One Compatible With AT&T, T-Mobile & Worldwide Carriers

Verizon has become the only carrier within the US to have the HTC One M8 straight after it became official. This happens to be one of the most wanted handsets of 2014 and the HTC One M8 forum has been inundated with threads about the handset. Some of these have been general discussion, with some people seeing feedback from device owners, while others just wanted answers to questions.

One question was about whether the Verizon version of the HTC One M8 was global ready. TechtonicPenguin asked:

“Is the Verizon Wireless HTC One (M8) unlocked and global-ready? Meaning if purchased from a Verizon store, will the HTC One (M8) work with any SIM card / GSM carrier in the US as well as other countries?”

According to Verizon the HTC One M8 is listed on the global ready device page and they said that all of their handsets can be used overseas without having to have the handset unlocked. HTC also assured us the same.

The 4G LTE devices of Verizon use SIM cards and this means that they are globally ready and are compatible with the 3G/2G GSM bands that are used around the world. All you need to do is put a prepaid SIM card into the handset and configure the APN settings. The same also applies for AT&T in the US. However there is no LTE, only 3G.

If you want to go with T-Mobile this is tricky as the device only gets 2G Edge speeds unless you happen to be in one of the areas where T-Mobile re-farmed 2G areas. If so then you will get 3G.

The HTC One M8 is a great travel companion and if you know someone with an upgrade on Verizon who is not going to use it then you could use the HTC One M8 on Straight Talk by putting an AT&T SIM card into the device.
