The annual Japanese Car of the Year awards has returned and it is an accomplishment that every car manufacturer would want to achieve. Ever since the award was created, the winners have been a Japanese-made vehicle. This was until last year, when the Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSI stole the thunder.
This year, it is a whole different story. The winner is the Mazda 2, which means that the award has returned to Japan. The Mazda 2 overcame other great vehicles like the Toyota Harrier, Lexus NX, Nissan Teana, Infiniti Q50 and Subaru Levorg to claim victory.
There is no need to explain any further. The Mazda 2’s victory is simply owed to the 1.5L diesel engine with the SkyActiv technology, together with the stylish KODO-Soul of Motion design language. The former, in particular, confirmed that it is the most environmental friendly car in its segment while also being able to offer immense power.
The Mazda 2 is the fifth Mazda vehicle to have won the award and the Japanese carmaker can start patting themselves on their back for this accomplishment.
