Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini: How To Update To 4.4.2 KitKat

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is among those devices that are dead in Samsung’s eyes. The Korean-manufacturer has ceased all the future updates for the Galaxy S3 Mini. As such, users have been relying on CyanogenMod ever since.

The notorious developer has been blessing old devices with custom ROMs. The latest ROM gifted to the Galaxy S3 Mini is the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS called the CM11. Best of all, the KitKat is free of bloatware, malwares and bugs.

If you wish to update your S3 Mini to the CM11, follow the instruction below.

1. Connect the Galaxy S3 Mini to computer via USB cable and copy the downloaded ROM and Google Apps zip files to the root folder on the phone’s SD card.
2. Disconnect the USB cable and Power off the phone. Wait until the device shuts down completely.
3. Now press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power buttons simultaneously, until the Galaxy S3 mini logo appears on screen.
4. Then release all three buttons at the same time to boot into recovery mode.
5. Perform Wipe data/Factory reset (this will delete all apps and their settings and game progress) and choose Yes on next screen to confirm the action.
6. Return to CWM recovery main menu and select Mounts and Storage > Format System and click Yes on next screen to confirm.
7. From the main menu of CWM recovery, go to Advanced and choose Wipe Dalvik Cache. Then hit Yes on next screen to confirm.
8. Select Install Zip from sdcard and then click Choose zip from sdcard. Browse to the location of the CM11 firmware file which you copied earlier to your phone’s SD card. Choose Yes on next screen to confirm the firmware installation.
9. Reboot the device and the startup will take much longer than usual. Once booted, run through About Phone and check to see the KitKat in effect.
