Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini Android 4.4 KitKat Status Update

It was said the reason behind this was due to limited hardware. The Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 along with the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini comes with 1GB of RAM and so it would not be able to take the update without there being some big issues. Android 4.4 is known to be power hungry and 1GB of RAM wouldn’t allow it to run smoothly. The latest KitKat and TouchWiz from Samsung packs in lots of new S features, improvements to multi-tasking for instance would not be handled well by the 1GB RAM versions of the handset.

So it is looking as though the leaked Samsung document could be the real deal and KitKat 4.4 could only arrive on the LTE variation of the Samsung Galaxy S4.

On the plus side there are custom ROMs available for the Samsung Galaxy S3 3G. Android 4.4.2 ROMs can be flashed as they work with as little as 512MB of RAM, however it is only possible with stock Android features, but the Samsung update comes with hundreds of other updates which are for the bloatware apps. Custom ROMs come from such as CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android and AOKP.

At the moment the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini has Android Jelly Bean 4.2 and it could be sticking with this as we have not heard about plans for an update.

As Samsung have seemingly stopped support for the Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 and the Mini, you could be tempted to update your handset to one that comes with KitKat 4.4 installed. However custom ROMs are a viable option to this.
