Before Capcom announce that they were going to release a Resident Evil 2 Remake of their own, the guys over at Invader Games was already working on one. At that time, the title of the remake was called Resident Evil 2 Reborn.
However, they were forced to shut the project down after Capcom made it clear that they themselves would be working on a remaking the Resident Evil 2. Things have gotten quiet on the side of Invader Games since then but it is not the end for them yet.
The developers have now announced a new project called Daymare: 1998. Looking at the announcement trailer, it is clear that the project was inspired by the Resident Evil franchise but they have also taken inspiration from some of the other horror games out there.
The developers will start a Kickstarter campaign next year to fund the development of the game. You can check out the first trailer below.
