Both the Porsche Cayenne and the Panamera have proved their worth as the best SUV in the previous years. Now that the Macan is out, will it be able to continue the successful streak of its siblings? To find out for sure, we have put the Macan in a duel with the Range Rover Evoque.
In terms of design, obviously, the Evoque looks better than the Macan. The latter is nothing more than a downsized version of the Cayenne and the Panamera. The SUV from Range Rover is currently the best looking SUV in the market and there has yet to be a rival car that can challenge its beauty.
However, the Evoque is surprisingly second best to the Macan, in the field of performance. Porsche delivered its promise to create an SUV that runs like a sports car. When driving the Macan, one can easily feel its close resemblance of the 911 turbo. This is despite of the fact that the Macan runs on a Diesel S engine. Of course there are also petrol engines to choose from.
If it is raw power, than the Evoque is obviously the better choice. It runs on a 187bhp 2.2litre engine, which is regarded as the most powerful commercial diesel engine around. Then again, the 254bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel on the Macan will soon break this record to be the world’s most powerful diesel engine around.
The Macan is not just about performance. Porsche ensured that commuters get the ultimate travelling experience as it offers a more comfortable interior. This isn’t something new as Porsche is a major brand in the automotive world.
Even though both vehicles are able to run on poor road conditions, it is the Evoque that has better controls for off-road touring. The Evoque has the strength and power to climb any elevations without a problem. The Macan lacks in this field as it is built to boss the roads and highways.
In terms of functionality, we have to side with the Range Rover Evoque. The car is basically what all 4×4 should be. If style, comfort and performance is the priority, then you can never go wrong with the Porsche Macan.
