Mazda CX-5 vs Subaru Forester 2.5i: Best Japanese SUV Of 2014

Earlier this year, two new SUVs emerged from Japan and they are the Mazda CX-5, and the Subaru Forester 2.5i. Both cars have been an instant global hit ever since their respective debut. Today, we shall find out the better vehicle of the two.

The Mazda CX-5 Sport runs on front-wheel drive whereas the Subaru Forester 2.5i is an all-wheel drive vehicle. Both are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and are priced in the $21,000 range.

In terms of looks, the CX-5 is truly a masterpiece. Its curves and large grille made it look mean and powerful. The Forester might have a decent design but it is too dull for our liking.

Between the two, it is the CX-5 that offers better gas mileage. The car recorded 26mpg in city traffic and 35mpg on highway. The Forester is far behind as it recorded 22mpg city and 29mpg on the highway. Furthermore, the CX-5 can travel up to 518 miles with a single full tank. The Forester stands at 461 miles.

Under the hood, the CX-5 is equipped with a 2L Naturally Aspirated Gas inline 4 engine that produces 155hp. The Forester runs on a 2.5L Naturally Aspirated Gas flat-4, which produces 170hp.

It seems that the latter has a more powerful engine system of the two. Also, the Forester comes in multiple colour variants to choose from. However, it is not enough to take away the victory from the Mazda CX-5. Yes the SUV might not be as powerful as the Forester but it is better in every other way.
