Pokemon X & Y: Get Yourself A ‘Shiny’ Monster

For Pokemon players, the main prizes are the shiny pocket monsters themselves, and the new Pokemon X&Y game is said to have an increased frequency of wins, according to the Geek website. There are also lots of guides that help players to find a shiny Pokemon, and this can be as easy as hitting a button.

One way to find a Pokemon os to tip the NPCs $100, $500 or $1,000, and Geek confirmed this after finding a shiny Oddish after tipping a photographer outside the Parfum Palace. The player hasn’t found anything else yet, but it’s a start!

Another way to find a shiny is to use the Matsuda method, named after Game Freak producer Junichi Matsuda. This increases the probability of a shiny Pokemon. It involves breeding two Pokemon monsters from different areas – the egg you’ll get has much more chance of becoming a shiny Pokemon, although hatching the egg can be a long and tedious process.

Then we have Poke Radar chaining, as the Poke Radar has come back to X&Y.

You’ll find the Poke Radar on the second floor of Professor Sycamore’s lab, just after you beat the Elite Four. This device means you can “chain” Pokemon, and if you do it properly, you can detect shiny Pokemon in the grass. You have to walk into the grass with a different rule, activate the Poke Radar and find your way through the grass to meet a similar Pokemon, creating a chain and upping your chances of meeting one. You have to observe the way the grass moves, and move into grass patches that have similar movements. You’ll also need to repel wild Pokemon, as they can break chains. This can be quite laborious, but is the most reliable way to find a shiny Pokemon. There’s a video of this method working really well over on the Geek website – it’s a good guide.

We don’t know of any other methods as yet, but keep trying and you’ll get yourself a shiny!
