The success of the CX-5 has got Mazda totally focused on expanding the CX-moniker further, starting with a new line of SUV. Known as the CX-3, the upcoming vehicle will be a direct replacement to the Mazda5.
The latter has yet to get an update and sales of the vehicle have been fluctuating since 2011. This is due to its large size, which failed to appeal to the masses that prefer a more compact model. As such, Mazda is developing the CX-3 and it will be a subcompact crossover.
The segment is currently trending in the automotive world. Once the CX-3 gets released, it will be competing with the Buick Encore, the upcoming Honda HR-V and the market dominator, Nissan Juke.
While there are no details on what is to come with the CX-3, we can expect it to be based on the Mazda2 platform, while running on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. In fact, independent artist theophiluschin has shared his visualization on the CX-3 and you can view them here.
Of course, there is no telling if the CX-3 will look anything like it. We can only be certain once Mazda unveils it in June next year.
