Google has already released the Android 5.0 Lollipop but many smartphone manufacturers are still pending to roll out the update to their devices. This includes LG, which is still tweaking the Lollipop OS for their smartphones.
On the other hand, LG G2 users can already skip the wait and start updating their device to the Android 5.0 Lollipop. This is thanks to XDA’s Rashed97, who had just launched a custom ROM containing the Android 5.0 Lollipop specifically for the G2 D800, D801, D802, LS980, and VS980 variants.
Unfortunately, there are a couple of issues with the custom ROM due to it being in its early build. Rashed97 shared that the video recording and GPS functions are not working properly. Also, the LS/VS980 variant has some issue with the cellular network. The upside to this is that Rashed97 promises to patch the problems in the future.
If you are an LG G2 user and don’t mind the issues, you can still proceed to install the Android 5.0 Lollipop. All you have to do is follow the guide below. Do note that we will not be held accountable for any damages or loss of files caused from the installation process.
Pre-requisite
1. Make sure a backup is created and the device is already rooted with CWM. We recommend doing so with NANDROID.
2. A minimum of 50% battery life to ensure no disruption when installation is taking place.
3. CM12 ROM ZIP downloaded for the G2.
4. Google Apps Package downloaded.
Flashing Instruction
1. Transfer both the Custom ROM and Google Apps Package to your G2.
2. Boot device into recovery mode and wipe cache, data and system partition.
3. Flash the CM12 ROM.
4. Then, Flash the Google Apps Package.
5. The G2 should reboot and it will run on the Lollipop OS.
