Apple might have released the iOS 8 last week but jailbreak fans are still stuck on the iOS 7.1.2. There seems to be no way out for them other than hoping for a good Samaritan to produce a jailbreak for the system. If they are to upgrade to the iOS 8, it is at least another three months before Evad3rs unleashed the jailbreak for it.
Well, if you are one of the folks that are trapped on the iOS 7.1.2 and are desperate for some Cydia love, there is actually a way out of this mess. However, it is not through going forward but instead, through working in reverse.
One of our readers shared that he managed to downgrade his 64GB iPhone 5S bought from Verizon to the old iOS 7.0.4 by using iTunes 11.2.2(3) and OSX 10.9.2. Of course, the key element here is iTunes and it wouldn’t hurt for you to attempt something similar.
All the reader did was plugging in his device to a computer and wait for iTunes to auto run. There, the latter will indicate the iPhone’s status and running system. Also, there is an option that does restore/backup.
The lad then clicked on it and a long list of previous backup loads the screen, together with their description. Select the iOS 7.0.4 which should be at the top of the list and commence the restoration. In a matter of minutes, the iPhone 5S will restart in the old iOS 7.04.
In some cases, the backup can get corrupted and cause some core system files to go missing. If you are to encounter this, then install the iPhone Backup Extractor app to get it fixed. Also, you will have to jailbreak your smartphone all over again.
This might sound like a lot of effort and work just to get back the on track with Cydia. Then again, it is either through downgrading the iOS or wait an additional 3 months for you. It’s your call.
