GTA 5 Online: What A Month Of Awesomeness Has Taught Us

We’ve seen a lot of info on GTA Online from Rockstar, and the company has also given confirmation about heists, jobs, microtransactions and reputations.

GTA Online has been with us for just over a month, and this is what we know so far:

Gamers can wander around the map quite freely.

It first launched with support for 16 players, but Rockstar said “from launch”, which makes us think there might be support for up to 32 players eventually.

GTA Online players can join in with watching films, shooting and improving their reputations. They can eliminate gangs, and rob armoured trucks and stores.

Many people want to know if GTA Online will feature the heists that were in the single player game.

At first, heists weren’t included, but the news is that they’re coming later on.

Rockstar said when the heists come they’ll “introduce full-on cooperative heist missions that will require careful planning, teamwork and sharp execution – along with the Heist Planning Board for your apartment.”

We thought the GTA 5 heists would be a bit more exciting, but they’re OK, and they will get better – the Online heists will get planned flag updates alongside other updates – all free.

There is a reputation system in GTA Online, which means that things that you do in the game will give you a reputation.

There’s a reputation system on GTA Online – the things you do will give you a certain rep. You can also unlock new features, make new contacts and bag new weapons. Your newly-found contacts will tip you off about various new missions.

You can also spend the cash you earn on cars, clothes, properties and, of course, guns.

GTA Online won’t let you transfer money like in the single player game, though. You will, however, be able to make money faster in GTA Online.

GTA Online will also feature microtransactions, so gamers can buy things with real money. Rockstar did say that this real spending is optional and won’t “disrupt the balance of the game”. The online game also has its own missions and characters.

Players can get missions and jobs from characters, and these missions boost up reputations.

There are lots of sports to play, as well, like tennis, golf and base jumping.

In GTA Online, you can create your own character, which is novel.

Rockstar hinted that there might be teething troubles at first, when players try to get online:

“There will be the typical growing pains for an online game, including but not limited to crashes, glitches, crazy bugs, gameplay modes and mechanics that need re-balancing and other surprises.”

“One thing we are already aware of, and are trying to alleviate as fast as we can, is the unanticipated additional pressure on the servers due to a significantly higher number of players than we were anticipating at this point – we are working around the clock to buy and add more servers, but this increased scale is only going to make the first few days even more temperamental than such things usually are.

“This is part of the problem some of you have been experiencing with the iFruit App and some Social Club services – we apologize in advance for this and thank you for your patience in this area,” the company said.
