Daimler’s acquisition of Maybach carries so many promises as the company needed a super-luxury badge to compete with BMW’s Bentley and the Volkswagen’s Rolls Royce. However, things have taken on a new direction recently after rumours suggest that Maybach won’t step into production anytime soon.
Instead, Daimler intends to utilize Maybach trademark features and resources to upgrade the Mercedes brand and turn it into the ultimate luxury vehicle.
California California’s Art Center of College and Design student, Scott We Kaiser, revealed that a new Mercedes class will be created for this sole purpose. The sixth-term student suggested it to be called the U-Class, and it will be at a level higher than the S-Class.
The letter ‘U’ basically represents the German word ‘üppig’. In English, this means lavish or the best that luxury has to offer. The U-Class will have a much longer wheelbase to accommodate the many high-end designer features in the interior. The vehicles will measure at 212” by 125” which will be longer than the Bentley Flying Spur but slightly shorter than the Rolls Royce Phantom.
The U-Class should also come with a large engine capacity to offer the ultimate power and to keep the commute smooth. Kaiser suggests that it is best for Mercedes to equip it with a 6L twin-cam turbo V12 that is linked to the rear axle.
For years now, the best of Mercedes has always been with the S-Class. The premium line of sedans will continue to exist as it needs to compete with the 7-Series from BMW and the Audi A8. As for the ultra-rich folks, they can refer to the U-Class.
