2014 Nissan Pathfinder Review: Spacious But Boring

Nissan has been going all-out with the SUV segment this year. At the start of 2014, the Japanese carmaker launched the Qashqai and it has been a bestseller. Now, there is a new face in the block and it is the Pathfinder.

This latest SUV comes with 7-seats, spacious interior and runs on the 2WD system. While the SUV might not be able to drive on the tough terrains, it is still the ideal family car around.

The Pathfinder is powered by Nissan’s VQ35 3.5-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine with 190kW/325Nm on-tap. It is controlled with a CVT transmission. The huge engine capacity means that the Pathfinder is able to offer the power when the driver needs it. However, efficiency suffers as the SUV recorded 9.9L/100km. Then again, this is still better than they Toyota Kluger which can only manage 11L/100km.

Inside the cabin, the pathfinder is built to offer the ultimate comfort. It might seem like Nissan is exaggerating after adding in ten cup holders, six bottle holders, four 12V power outlets and an under-floor storage compartment behind the third row seats but this is surely handy for a long holiday road trip.

The Pathfinder is as spacious as it gets. The cargo space itself is already more than its rivals and it can be increased drastically by folding down the second and third row seats. Doing so will total up the cargo space to 2,259L.

All in all, the Pathfinder is truly a practical car to own. However, things were fairly straightforward for the SUV from Nissan which makes it like a dull ride. Everything is automated by the vehicle and it leaves the driver with nothing much to do.
