The Last Guardian wasn’t featured at Sony’s press conference earlier today which was a bit surprising as we all expected it to be shown in one way or another. PlayStation software product development head Scott Rohde told GameSpot in an interview during E3 that the game is still not ready to be shown publicly.
“It was a fun week of Last Guardian news,” Rohde said with a smile on his face targeting the earlier rumors on twitter that the game is cancelled but he was fast enough to destroy this rumor and confirm the existence of The Last Guardian.
“At PlayStation, it’s really important to us to make sure that the creative process works. And in this case, [game director Fumito Ueda] has created something that’s great, it’s just going to need some time. We’ll show it when it’s ready.” He continued.
The game was originally announced 5 years ago in 2009′s E3 and since that time minimal info regarding the development of the game were published except for 2013′s update from Sony president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida in which he announced the “reengineering” of the game’s staff.
“Hiatus, I never… It was Jack Tretton! He used that term, and I said no, hiatus is misleading,” Yoshida said. “It was a hiatus in terms of releasing new information. The game has never stopped–the team has always been here. They’re going through the reengineering of the game, so the team size is smaller, because it’s more engineering focused right now.” Yoshida said in an interview with GamesIndustry International at the time.
When approached by Gamespot’s interviewer concerning The Last Guardian coming to next-gen consoles or is it still a PS3 game, he replied with “I’m not going to talk about it more than that,”.
