Chevy Impala & Cadillac XTS Electronic Parking Brake Malfunction

Issues with the electronic parking brake have forced General Motors to recall the Chevrolet Impala and the Cadillac XTS. The problem was identified by NTHSA after the organization did an investigation on the vehicles.

The investigation was conducted back in April this year after drivers reported on inappropriate autonomous braking while driving. It is unsure if the cause could have been due to the Epsilon platform, which shaped both vehicles.

General Motors announced that the recall involves the 2013-2015 Cadillac XTSs and 2014-2015 Chevy Impalas.

In detail, the electronic parking brake fails to fully retract after being disengaged. With the brakes still locked on the tyres, forcing mobility will cause it to overheat, hence increasing the chance of a fire.

At the moment, there has yet to be any reported injuries to arise from the issue. Now that the vehicles are being recalled, drivers can get their car checked and fixed accordingly.
