Charging Made Convenient Through Thermoelectric Ikea Furniture

What if you could charge your phone from your dining table, without the use of any charger, socket and whatnot? Yes, you read that right. It’s possible, and it’s created by two design students and they’ve proposed their idea for future Ikea furniture. If this becomes a hit in the market, we’ll surely be able to save a lot of heat energy.

Students Sergey Komardenkov and Vihanga Gore from the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction developed an idea called the Heat Harvest, generally turning heat from anything placed on the table into usable energy. Though the idea of thermoelectric technology is not new, the project that these students have ventured into have undeniably raised the concept into a reality, even more so with recent developments in nanotech.

Heat Harvest desks would absorb the heat from things placed onto an embedded pad, running the heat through a thermoelectric generator, and then pushing the energy back into the wireless charging dock for your phone. This idea will definitely take a while before Ikea implements it, but in the meantime, we really hope we can have it pre-booked online before it finally arrives. Can we, pretty please?
