When it comes to films based on games, there is always that disagreement that will lead up to a failure in its development. Bioshock is no different as production for a film based on the highly popular game failed to materialize.
Failures aside, parts of the film got salvaged and shared on the internet. The production concept artist, Jim Martin, uploaded several concept designs for the Bioshock film and it certainly looks stunning. Some of the images even reminded us of the original game itself. It is sad to see the film’s development coming to a halt.
Jim Martin is not your average designer. He was part of a number of teams that brought us The Matrix Reloaded, Pirates of the Caribbean At World’s End and even Captain America The First Avenger.
The Bioshock movie was at first directed by Gore Verbinski who felt that it should be an R-rated $200,000,000 film. However, the poor performance in sales by The Watchmen took its toll on Bioshock’s production as the company cuts the budget to $80 million and demanded a PG13 rating. As a result, Verbinski pulled out of the production team. The director responsible for Pirates of The Caribbean couldn’t fulfil those demands and he got replaced by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
The 28-weeks Later director then decided to pull the plug on the production and it don’t look to be revived anytime from now. Could there be a curse on these game-based films? Or is it just coincidence? Either way, the project’s failure is definitely a loss on its own.
