Apple’s iPad Mini 2 Falls Behind Google Nexus 7 2 & Kindle Fire HDX In New Test

In terms of the display between the three devices, Dr Ray Soneria did some tests on them which include Screen Reflectance, Image Contrast Accuracy, Viewing Angle Performance, Peak Brightness and many more. The results were surprising. The Apple tablet might have the highest resolution and PPI but it has the lowest colour gamut. The tablet has appears to maintain the gamut from the original iPad Mini which is at 63%.

Both the Kindle Fire HDX and the Nexus 7 2013 scored an outstanding 100% colour gamut. Between the two, the Kindle Fire HDX fared better as it uses the Quantom Dots technology which produces highly saturated primary colours similar to OLED displays. This makes the Kindle Fire HDX more energy efficient compared to the Low Temperature Poly Silicon display on the Nexus 7 2013.

More importantly, it is disappointing to find out that the Apple iPad Mini 2 performed so poorly. The least Apple could do is challenge its competitors but instead, the company prefers to take baby steps with its upgrade.
